Doubles guide
Race weekend as a pair: tickets, check-in, start waves, and the things people forget
Doubles has a few extra moving parts before the start gun: two people, two check-ins, two chips, one start time. Here is the order, so nothing goes wrong before you have even started.
Weeks before: the ticket
- One order, two athletes. One of you books the doubles ticket. On the HYROX US site, the other partner then gets an email with a link to sign their own waiver.
- Personalize early. All athlete tickets have to carry both names at least two weeks before the event. That is what your start time and check-in code are built from.
- Partner changes. Only with the Flex or Lite Flex add-on, once per ticket, and it can only be bought with the ticket. Division changes are not allowed. Without the add-on, no changes or refunds.
These ticket rules come from the HYROX US FAQ, read in October 2026. Each country's site has its own FAQ, so check the one for your event.
The week before: start time
About three days before the event you get your start wave time. Doubles teams start in waves of their own division. Start in a different wave without permission from the organizers and the pair is disqualified, so do not try to slip into an earlier wave with friends.
Race day: check-in
- Both of you check in, in person. Bring a government photo ID and your registration confirmation.
- You each get a timing chip on an ankle strap, a racer number and a wristband. The wristband color shows your division and start wave and has to stay visible on your wrist.
- Two chips, two ankles. Doubles race with one chip per athlete. A chip not worn on the ankle while racing means a Did Not Start result.
- Arrive early. Event FAQs suggest about 90 minutes before your start time for check-in, bag drop and warm-up.
The start
Be at the start tunnel ten minutes before your start time, with your start time visible on your arm. Both of you have to be on the start line and begin together. Stay out of the run course and the Roxzone before your start: walking through can trigger your chip and corrupt your time.
During the race
- Run together, the whole kilometer. One partner running ahead costs a one-minute penalty.
- Enter and leave every station together. The work cannot begin until both of you are there.
- More than three penalties for not staying together and the pair is out of the ranking.
The things pairs forget
- A meeting point inside the venue, in case one of you is late or phones die.
- Who carries the shared bag, the gels and the water bottles to bag drop.
- Your station split, written down. Read it together in the warm-up area.
- Who you will race the next one with.
For that last one, ROXMATCH shows you athletes racing your next event, in your division, with a goal time close to yours. Rules quoted here are from the HYROX Doubles Rulebook, season 26/27. Check the current rulebook before you race.
Questions athletes ask
Do both doubles partners need a ticket?
You book one doubles ticket with both names on it. Both athletes have to be named, and on the US site the second partner signs their own waiver from an email link.
Can I change my doubles partner?
Only with the Flex or Lite Flex add-on, once per ticket, according to the HYROX US FAQ. Without it, no changes are possible. Check your event's FAQ.
When do we get our HYROX doubles start time?
About three days before the event. Doubles teams start in waves of their own division, and starting in another wave without permission is a disqualification.
Do both partners wear a timing chip?
Yes. Doubles race with one timing chip per athlete, worn on the ankle for the whole race.
What do we need at check-in?
Each of you needs a government photo ID and the registration confirmation. You both check in in person.
